Sihanoukville Governor Permits Sea Travel, but Advises Caution

PREAH SIHANOUK: Sihanoukville Governor Kouch Chamroeun posted a video this morning greenlighting tourists to travel to the islands by boat safely, but advised them to be careful. Kouch Chamroeun reopened travel by sea as he felt that the weather in Sihanoukville had improved.

He also allowed fishermen to return to fishing at sea as usual but he suggested that fishermen should only go for one day and return to the mainland.

He advised all boat passengers to wear life jackets every time they travel on the water to avoid any possible accidents.

The provincial governor also advised the authorities to be ready to intervene in case of emergency.

Last weekend, Kouch Chamroeun proposed a temporary halt to sea travel and fishing due to strong winds and high waves. The governor of Sihanoukville ordered the release of five ships to carry tourists stranded on islands on Monday.
